Moodie Davitt STUDIO unveils Director’s Cut premiere and outlines groundbreaking plans

INTERNATIONAL. Moodie Davitt STUDIO today releases the Director’s Cut version of its debut production, ‘Hainan Heritage in a Glass – 1,000 years in the making’ accompanied by a short film ‘In Conversation – a Storytelling Journey Begins’, detailing the goals and philosphy of the newly launched film division. It also brings you the first in a series of shorts from the recent Hainan Expo.

As reported, Moodie Davitt STUDIO is dedicated to high-quality storytelling of the people, brands, retailers and locations that make up the global travel retail and airport commercial revenue sectors.

The global premiere, ‘Hainan Heritage in a Glass – 1,000 years in the making’, tells the extraordinary story of Zhuo Zhou Shanlan Rice Wine and its Founder & CEO Zeng Fanhua.

Moodie Davitt STUDIO productions will feature a wide variety of formats and subject matter, from 60-90-second shorts designed for multiple social media channels to longer documentaries and even series to be shown across our and clients’ platforms.

The films will be fronted variously by The Moodie Davitt Report Co-Owners Martin Moodie and Dermot Davitt; Haikou-based Asia Pacific Content Strategist Lara Netherlands; and Brands Director Hannah Tan-Gillies.

The production team is led by Videographer, Editor and Director Alexander Roux; complemented by Production Manager Chen Ming (‘Mao’), both based in Haikou; and UK-based Video Editor Declan Moodie and Development and Systems Operations Director Matt Willey.

Asked how he and Moodie Davitt STUDIO approach a brand, airport or retailer story, Roux says: “It all starts with knowing what the brand’s goals are, knowing exactly who their customer base is and what messages they want to convey to the customer.

“Those are the tough questions we ask first. And once we have those answered, we start formulating the story, structuring how we’re going to shoot everything and what kind of shots we need to get.”

Moodie Davitt STUDIO films will be shown across multiple platforms, including The Moodie Davitt Report.com (‘The website that never sleeps’); a dedicated Moodie Davitt STUDIO YouTube channel; our two WeChat platforms; and amplified across our LinkedIn, Instagram, X and Facebook accounts.

These will be complemented by our partners’ own platforms. Collectively, this represents an unrivalled distribution network that will in time build what Martin Moodie describes as ‘A golden bridge’ between B2B and B2C.

Moodie picks up on the storytelling element. “All brands that inhabit the travel retail industry have a fantastic backstory,” he says. “They’re all about craftsmanship and heritage, or the younger brands have come from some entrepreneurial genius – from entrepreneurial, blood, sweat, and tears.

“And those are the stories we want to bring out. Sometimes stories about the land and man’s effect on the land as we see in our first film. But Moodie Davitt STUDIO will also be about the craft, tradition, tastes, culture, all of that coming together. We want to bring out those great stories.

“This isn’t going to be about talking heads. It’s going to be very different to anything that’s happened in travel media before. That’s our goal.” ✈
